University of Oregon: 2013 Spring Sports

Another short but sweet post. The past few months I’ve been working on the imagery for the 2013 University of Oregon Spring Sports. Which means I’m done with all the sports for the year! There has been a little down time recently so I’ve been doing a lot of test shoots that I’ll be sharing over the next week or two. I’m also prepping and concepting for next years work with the University which will be bigger and better than ever!

English Gardner

Here’s a quick post about a new image that I shot for the University of Oregon. It’s of Sprint Star English Gardner who just had an amazing performance last weekend at the Millrose games. I’m just about to wrap up my work for the University for the school year so I should be posting more frequently in the next month. This is small version of the photo but if you want to see it larger you can head over to my website and check it out there.

New University of Oregon Work

That last couple of months I’ve been super busy trying to wrap up the 2012-2013 images for the University of Oregon. There are still a few left to be posted (and I still have one more sport to shoot) but this is the majority of the work for the sports this year. I’m definitely interested in hearing what your favorites are!

Oregon Cheerleading Calendar

Last month I had the opportunity to work with the University of Oregon Cheerleaders on creating their first ever calendar. I shot the team over the course of the four Oregon Football home games in September and then had about a week to get the images selected and edited to go to the printer. It’s been a whirlwind the last couple of weeks but it’s good to finally see the final product (well, I’m still waiting to get my copy but you know what I mean). If you are interested in picking up a copy of your own you can

University of Oregon: Volleyball

Here are the posters that I made for the University of Oregon’s Volleyball team this year. The concept for the project was based upon the images that I shot of Sunny last year. The first poster, which was released a few months ago, features Alaina Bergsma (also Miss Oregon USA 2012). The second poster was released in just the past few weeks features the whole team. It wasn’t easy to fit 15 people into a single image but I think it worked out pretty well!

UO Athletics

Over the past few months I’ve shown you some of the images that I created for the University of Oregon this year. It was a lot of fun working with my Alma Mater and the amazing creative team in the athletic department. Sometimes it can be challenging working under a clients guidelines but they gave me enough freedom to let my creativity shine through into their ideas and concepts. I worked with the Acrobatics & Tumbling team, Women’s Tennis, Track & Field, Baseball and Softball and now I have all the final compositions that are on display in Eugene, Oregon,

University of Oregon: Baseball

January ended up being a surprisingly busy month and I can’t really be too heartbroken about not being able to update my blog. A few weeks ago I worked with the University of Oregon on the upcoming promotional materials for the Baseball program (as well as Track and Softball but those will be left for future blog posts). The main focus was to create an image that played up the stadium to get people exciting about coming to the games this upcoming season. The initial concept was to create something similar to the Friday Night Lights movie poster but as

Before-and-After Sportrait: UO Tennis

Monday I gave you another preview of the photo I created for the University of Oregon’s Women’s Tennis poster and Wednesday I posted how the composite was built. Today, I thought I’d show a little before and after of one of the individual portraits making up this composite. Like I mentioned last week in the Step-by-Step Acrobatics and Tumbling Composite, the background goes through the same “HDR toning” that my Sportraits go through. When I started out, the processing techniques that I was using were what I learned from Joel Grimes at one of his workshops. But, like everything in

Step-by-Step Composite: UO Tennis

This is definitely not going to be as extensive as the tutorial from last week. A lot of this is just repeating steps but I still want to give you an idea of how this composite was built. This photo ended up being a lot more complex because the cutouts were super difficult. My initial concept didn’t have so much overlap and thus I didn’t plan on needing a white background to shoot onto. I’ll get into more detail on this later but let’s jump into the steps behind creating this poster. Step 1: Base Image – There always have
