Shoot More Often

One thing you’ll hear over and over again is shoot as often as you can. I’ll be the first to admit I’m not the best at this and usually wait till I have a concrete concept and a model/athlete lined up. But, you don’t have to always be shooting the exact same thing over and over again. You’ll get stagnant and bored. You have to constantly challenge yourself. There are a lot of photographers out there who just wait for the golden hours and that’s the only time they’ll go out and shoot. I, once again, will admit that I’ve

Basketball Sportscape

If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out the main website for Zach Ancell Photography, I would recommend you do so. I spent this weekend finishing up on some of the branding that I mentioned in a post last week. For a while, I’ve wanted to redo the website and rework all of my material. The website not only has a new color scheme and logo but also is a completely new template. It’s a little simpler and in my opinion a little easier to navigate. And, there have been a couple modifications here on the blog but nothing

Kapalua Sunset

I apologize for not getting this image up last week. I was a little busy towards the end of the week and didn’t have a chance to write something up about it. However, if you are a fan on my Facebook Fan Page (shameless plug) you’ve already had an opportunity to see this photo. Sadly, it’s the final photo from my Hawaiian vacation. Like I mentioned in my “Inspiration” post a few weeks back, I didn’t spend a lot of time shooting while I was on vacation. Sometimes it’s nice to get away from the camera for a little bit.

Hawaiian Sunset

Alright, I know this has taken way longer than I expected to get posted. If you didn’t have a chance to read the blog on Monday I quickly mentioned a few reasons why it took me so long. So once again, I’m sorry for taking so long (and if you really want to know the reasons go back and read Monday’s blog post). The whole reason I had the opportunity to go down to Hawaii (Maui to be specific) was because my Dad’s company was hosting a conference down there and I went down to hang out with him. I

Grand Tetons: Limited Edition

This is something that I’ve wanted to put together for a while now. My love for photography started with going out and shooting landscapes. I took some advice from a good friend and started taking portraits and that led to what I do now. But, I still continue to work on personal projects like continuing to shoot landscape photos. I decided that I should start taking the photos from that collection and selling them in a limited series that are signed and numbered. Essentially, when any photographer or artist signs a piece of artwork, they are saying that it’s up

Japanese Waterfall

This awesome little waterfall is located about 10 minutes away from my home in Portland. My sister and brother-in-law were in town for a day so we decided to go explore the Rose and Japanese Garden. Maybe we hit the Rose Garden (not the basketball arena) at the wrong time but the Japanese Garden was way more impressive. I suggest you check it out if you are ever in town. This photo was pretty simple. I shot it with the stock camera app that cones with all iPhones. On the post processing side of things, I used a program called
